EXPERIENCE CONSULTING - MARK RISLEY DATA SERVICES 1993-Present

Web Development, Education, and Marketing 1996-present

Provide complete website development consulting. Services include developing site objectives, layout design, marketing programs, web page publishing, and education for those who want to maintain own sites. Complete turn key solutions to customized services are available including scripting, forms, and other advanced services that can be integrated into a website. Also provide site maintenance agreements, search engine listings, and site evaluations including content, navigation, appeal, marketing, visibility and interactive capabilities.

Internet training and support 1994-1995

Added Internet introductory training, installation, and support for personal and business use. Provided services for several ISP start-ups. Developed and taught Internet courses for Sussex County Community College. Began development of a list of Sussex County Internet Resources (ongoing project).

Small Business Consulting and Information Services Support 1993-1994

Formed Mark Risley Data Services as a consulting service for small business targeting Sussex County Businesses. Provided basic information service support for desktop education, offload services, and computer and operating system migration. Services provided also included business consulting, including business plan development.

EXPERIENCE - IBM CORPORATION 1960-1993

Networking Systems Product Marketing Specialist 1992-1993

Responsible for the marketing, design and installation of LAN/WAN networks involving processors of various sizes and vendors. Research and continuing education on rapidly evolving technology was essential to providing solutions that fit a client's requirements. The introduction and education of clients on new products and technologies was a major responsibility. Other responsibilities included overview presentations, understanding the clients business needs, technical proposals and installation support structured to a client's environment. Skills employed were understanding the business requirements, objectives, and problems; involvement in Open Systems and TCP/IP (Including IBM product requirements); client/server solutions; and underlying LAN and WAN network infrastructure for transportation of voice, video, and data.

Large Systems Services Consultant 1991

Worked with large systems clients to understand their communication network requirements. Beneficial cost efficient proposals could then be proposed to meet their business requirements. Emphasis was placed on the centralization of large mainframes and distribution of function closer to the end user. Strategies included consolidation of large systems data centers, migration to peer or multi-tier distributed networks, and development of management reporting requirements.

Communications Systems Specialist 1983-1990

Worked with medium and large systems clients providing marketing and technical support for data communications products. Served as an area designated specialist for host based software and hardware. Gained early experience with evolving microprocessors, LAN technology, and communication management tools. Responsible for introduction and education for IBM/PC microprocessor (Intelligent Work Station); large hierarchical communication networks and their management systems; cabling systems and Local Area Networks (LAN) architecture; and migration to client/server with TCP/IP and SNA/APPC.

Large Systems Account System Engineer/Marketing Representative 1972-1982

Responsible for marketing and installation of IBM's large systems hardware and software products. Served as both branch and regional specialist for VS1, VS2 (eventually MVS), VM, Communications and IMS. Duties included performance analysis and capacity planning.; and early support programs such as VTAM with programmable remote stations (early client/server).

Member of Virtual Storage Announcement Task Force 1971-1972

Responsible for developing the IBM Virtual Storage (VM, VS1, VS2) marketing announcement materials and demonstrations showing the many benefits of these new operating systems.

District Large Systems Specialist 1968-1970

Responsible for support of Large Systems products, including S/370 announcement. District coordinator for early support programs for TCAM, TSO, and IMS (and several better forgotten).

Large Systems Program Support Representative 1966-1967

Part of roll out of "program support" to IBM Field Engineering Division. This function later lead to the IBM PSR (Program Support Representative) career position. Participated in development of field support requirements.

Large Systems Software Development and Integration Specialist 1964-1965

Worked with integration of software from various development labs into OS/360 and the development of the "OS Sysgen" process.

Large Scientific Processor Software Support Engineer 1963

ECEF (Extended CE Function) for IBSYS - IBM's first Operating System on 709x and 704x processors.

Large Scientific Processor Field Engineer 1960-1962

CE (Customer Engineer) for 704/709, 709x and 704x processors. Trained BMEWS Air Force personnel.
